Short Stories
In addition to picture books, I’ve also had several short stories, a non-fiction piece and a play published in magazines and an anthology for primary school-aged kids:
The Accidental Mouse, a story about a girl who accidentally turns her annoying little brother into a mouse then realises she misses him. Illustrated by Kruti Desai and published in Youkie magazine.
Lucky Cat, a sensory and descriptive story about a street cat taken to a fancy foreign city, who just wants to be home where he belongs. Illustrated by Tohby Riddle, also the cover story. Published in Orbit by The School Magazine, aimed at readers aged 10-11.
Princess Paloma and the Pea Challenge, a fractured fairytale and feminist retelling of The Princess and the Pea. Illustrated by Queenie Chan and published in Countdown by The School Magazine, aimed at readers aged 7-9.
Quokkas: The Happiest Animals! published in Launchpad by The School Magazine, a short non-fiction piece sharing animal facts for the publication’s Year 1 audience.
Kate, Liz and Nat’s Epic Picnic, a (silly) play (co-written with Kate Simpson and Nat Amoore as team One More Page podcast) about a picnic on the moon and space puppies. Published in Old Words, New Worlds, Other Worlds, a non-profit anthology for primary schoolers compiled by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA).
